Leverett Residence
This was a two-year project designed in collaboration with Edie Chaska, creating a 1,500 new home in a bucolic setting, attached to an old barn. We were keenly interested in melding the old with the new in a harmonious fashion. The house sits low to the ground and mostly reflects back the country settings around it; it is humble but gives off a grand feeling from inside; comfortable and cozy yet open and expansive; sleek, modern lines yet rustic enough to attract ‘Madam’, the hen to lay her eggs in the porcelain sink!
This was a highly collaborative project; we were committed to drawing out the creative, spacial, and personal sensibilities of the clients so that, at the end of the day, they would know that this was their home, that they were instrumental in creating. We go home to our respective houses while they will live the rest of their lives inside this one. To foster this deeper sense of creative ownership and participation is what I find most gratifying.
