Aloha Casita

Built from the ground up, this 440 sf ADU is about design-by-the-inch and economy of space.  My design intention was to make a very small, all-inclusive house feel spacious and comfortable to live in.  This was accomplished with the use of many windows to illuminate the entire space, the creation of two distinctive in-to-outdoor living spaces, and a great deal of consideration and thought put into tight ergonomics and a melding of passageways into multi-use living spaces - all with a comfortable flow and a pleasing feel.  We created a “batman” parking space with an automatic gate, a laundry room off a covered porch and used pony walls to define and distinguish spaces while protecting an open feel.  The exterior materials as well as the floors were salvaged from other jobs and repurposed here.
